We spoke to some audience members after they watched The Three Musketeers and the Princess of Spain to find out what they thought of the show. See what they said here!
The set for The Three Musketeers and the Princess of Spain is currently being built at the Belgrade’s production workshops, so we took a trip over to see how its all going.
The team have juist finished creating the floorboards for the stage and have started work on making the wall panels which need to look really grimy! These pictures show how they look in the early stages of development and what they will look like when they are completed.
Seb Morgan keeps us up to date on rehearsals
I will be playing “Olivier”, one of the Cardinals evil henchmen in The Three Musketeers and the Princess of Spain. I am also the company’s fight captain, so when the fight director has set all the fights I have to learn them as best as I can, maintain safety and make sure the actors are comfortable with the fights.
On top of this, I will be writing regular blogs to keep you up to date on our progress right through rehearsals.
We started off with a full company read through and I can’t believe how many people were there. As well as the full cast, director, musical director, physical choreographer, CSM, ASM, DSM, we had members from all the theatres we are visiting.
The rest of the week we got stuck into rehearsing and we had a lot of fun playing with ideas and seeing what feels right. We start each scene with a read through and then we discuss anything we feel we need to do before a few runs of it. Then, notes and ideas from Dominic “our glorious leader” and director, come flying in before we go again.
It’s great, the ideas are flowing but it’s all carefully planned so it makes sense and we’re not just doing things to be funny.
On Saturday we had our first day with Renny, our fight director. We worked through the first friendly fight when we meet the young Constance and D’Artagnan, the second fight when the three dummies, I mean Cardinal’s men, meet D’Artagnan then we started another fight after that. That’s just the beginning of Act One, there are more fights in that act and in act two, so we’re definitely going to have a busy time ahead!

The set was designed by Colin Richmond and these pictures above are of the model box, which is a scale model that is used to show how the design will look in three dimensions.
The action takes place in the crumbling underworld of 17th century Paris, which is inhabited by a range of gruesome monsters, so the set is suitably dark but with lots of humorous and modern touches! Here you even get to meet one of the most garish characters in the whole play!
This is the artwork that was created by the illustrator Kev Harper to represent each of the main characters in The Three Musketeers and the Princess of Spain.
Aramis looks like an ageing rocker, while Porthos and Athos look like they have really let themselves go! The Cardinal has a really sinister look about him, especially next to the radiant Princess of Spain.
